Swanage & Wareham had second in the table Salisbury as visitors last Saturday, and after a brief serge from the hosts the visitors soon showed their superiority.
Early in the play Swans received a couple of penalty which took them into the Salisbury 5 metres line, and after a few minutes Swans winger George Crouch scored out wide. Steve Woolley added the extras putting Swans up 7pts – nil after 6 minutes. From the restart Swans were penalised and Salisbury added the 3pts. It did not take the visitors to record their first try as left winger went in for a try in the corner.(7pts – 8pts). On 16 minutes the ball went loose, Swans winger Harry Spyers picked up the ball and raced 30 metres to score in the corner.(12pts – 8pts). From thereon it was all Salisbury on the attack. After 22 minutes the left winger scored his second try and after 25 minutes the centre went in for a converted try.(12pts – 20pts). Swans held off for nearly the rest of the half but succumbed in the final minute conceding a converted try making the half time score Swans 12pts Salisbury 27pts.
Playing with the wind in the second half Salisbury were on top, with Swans giving away a series of penalties. In the 48th minute Salisbury scored their fifth try in the corner (12pts – 32pts), but from there Swans put up a determined defence that prevented the visitors scoring again for the rest of the half, until the last minute when a catch/ drive move had Salisbury scoring close to the posts to make the final score Swans 12pts Salisbury 39pts.
