SWINDON v. SWANS

SWINDON 22pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 12pts

Swanage & Wareham had to make the long trip to second in the league Swindon, and they put up a creditable performance.

It was a close game for the first ten minutes, but a penalty to Swindon put the hosts into the Swans 22, and from a scrum the Swindon Fly half kicked over the Swans defence to a winger who caught the ball and scored in the corner.(5pts-nil). Swindon dominated the next ten minutes, and Swans gave away a penalty close to the posts which Swindon converted. (8pts – nil). Swans came more into the game in the final quarter of an hour, and had a chance to reduce the arrears from a penalty attempt which drifted just wide. In the final five minutes suddenly the referee collapsed and after both physios attended him both teams decided it was close to half time so play was suspended.

Fortunately a level six referee was on the touchline, and he agreed to take the second half otherwise the game would have to be abandoned and replayed sometime later.

In the second half both sides had chances to score early on but after 65 minutes a Swindon winger picked up a ball from half way, ran down the left wing, and ran round under the posts for a converted try.(15pts – nil). From the restart Swans went into Swindon 22 and after a few scummages the referee awarded Swans a penalty try.(15pts -7pts). With 5 minutes to go a fly hack from a loose ball on the half way line by a Swindon boot had both wingers going for the ball which the Swindon player won..The try was converted(22pts – 7pts). Swans were not finished and from a line out Swans centre Josua Degi made ground and scored a try close to the posts. The conversion missed. Final score was Swindon 22pts Swanage & Wareham 12 pts.
