COMBE DOWN v SWANS


COMBE DOWN 24pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 27pts


Swanage & Wareham had to travel to Combe Down, just outside of Bath, for their third game in the Southern Counties League, and after a tremendous tussle Swans managed a victory.

Swans started in a familiar way, giving away four penalties in the first five minutes. From one of these from a line out on Swans line Combe Down forced their way over the try line. There followed some open play by both sides but a couple of penalties to Swans had them in the hosts 22 and from a move winger Ollie Dillon equalised the score.(5pts -5pts) after 20 minutes. Combe Down came back at Swans and with a move down the left the hosts full back cut inside for a converted try after 27 minutes.(12pts – 5pts)

Swans almost scored from the restart, but from a scrum on the Combe Down 22 a move by Swans to winger Sam Bowen went in for a try in the corner making the score at half time Combe Down 12pts Swans 10pts.

C ombe Down came at Swans early the second half and a centre broke clear to score under

the posts.(19pts – 10pts). Swans went on the attack, and after 52 minutes were awarded a penalty which Steve Woolley put over. It was nip and tuck for most of the second half, but a couple of penalties to Swans took them into the Combe Down area, and after a couple of phases Steve Woolley managed to cross the line

He converted the try to take Swans ahead for the first time(19pts – 20pts) after 70 minutes. 3 minutes later a

tremendous tackle by replacement scrum half Olly Peters had the ball moved to Conor Moag who scored Swans bonus point try close to the posts. Woolley converted ( 19pts – 27pts). In the last five minutes Swans had to defend stoutly against Combe Down and had to give away a try in the corner taking their score to 24pts. to ensure the hosts picked up two bonus points.
