SWANAGE & WAREHAM 12pts ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT 2nd 18pts
Swanage & Wareham played against Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd XV in their latest Southern Counties league fixture, but having been ahead during the first half RWB were leading at half time, and Swans gave away too many penalties in the second half and RWB took the game.
After 5 minutes Swans gave away in their own half, and RWB put the ball into Swans 5 metre line and from the line out the ball was passed all along the RWB backs to score the opening try in the corner. Swans attacked from the restart and a good break by winger Olly Dillon was stopped just short of the RWB line. From the scrum Swans played the ball to centre Leon Esera who scored close to the posts. Will Slack converted(7pts- 5pts) after 18 minutes. The play was restricted to the middle of the field as both sides were tackling well. Swans were penalised after 25 minutes and from 40 metres RWB landed the goal to put them 7pts – 8pts . Just before the break Swans had a chance to go ahead but the penalty drifted wide. Half time Swans 7pts RWB 8pts.
Early in the second half RWB were denied a try as it was not grounded, Swans replied but the ball was heldup. However Swans gave away another penalty and after 58 minutes the line out resulted in RWB producing a catch/drive move to make the score 7pts – 15pts. Swans still gave away more penalties, but one on 65 minutes came to winger Olly Dillon, who set off down the wing from 50 metres to end up scoring in the corner. 12pts – 15pts. In the last 10 minutes Swans were on the offensive but could not breach the RWB defence but 5 minutes from the end RWB slotted another penalty to make the final score Swans 12pts RWB 2nd XV 18pts.
