For the first time ever, Swanage & Wareham welcomed Avonvale to Bestwall last Saturday.

The first half was a paltry affair, although there were penalties galore to both sides, defences were on top, and which ever side tried to put on an attack they were tackled, no side got anywhere near scoring a try, and the only chance for a score when after 15 minutes Steve Woolley hit the upright with a penalty kick shot at goal. Half Time Swans 0pts Avonvale 0pts.

Early in the second half Avonvale had two attempts to take the lead with penalties, one fell short the second attempt was sliced. However on the hour mark Swans had a penalty inside the Avonvale 22 which they put in the corner. From the resulting line out and maul Swans replacement hooker Joni

Vasanbole managed to cross the try line in the corner to put Swans ahead. The conversion went short.

Swans continued to press and with 10 minutes to play Steve Woolley landed another penalty to give Swans an 8pts lead. Three minutes later he repeated the score.(11pts – nil). From the restart Avonvale had three

Penalties to take them into Swans 22. What followed was a series of scrummages on Swans try line well into overtime and eventually the referee awarded Avonvale a Penalty try to end the game at Swans 11pts Avonvale 7pts.
