SWANS GO TOP AT CHRISTMAS

Swanage & Wareham welcomed Combe Down to Bestwall in their last game before the Christmas break, and with a bonus point victory, with other results going their way, Swans find themselves on top of Southern South league.
The first half started with Swans dominating the territory for the first 20 minutes or so, but Combe Down’s defence was superb, and the only chance Swans had was a missed penalty kick after ten minutes. The visitors managed to clear their lines and put Swans under pressure for the next ten minutes. Swans had a penalty and from a move Swans centre Tom Munns darted through a gap to score a try half way out after 34 minutes. Jamie Foskett added the conversion putting Swans but 7pts – nil at half time
Swans were on top early in the second half, and following a penalty after 46 minutes a tap & go move by Swans close to the Combe Down had wing forward Matt Roberts powering over the try line. Jamie Foskett added the extras putting Swans 14pts ahead. Combe Down had a kicker who kept Swans on the defensive, but Swans always moved the ball along three quarters and from such a move, Swans winger was tackled close to the line, but scrum half Olly Peters was on hand to score out wide.(19pts –nil after 55 miuutes). Combe Down came back into the game as Swans gave away a few penalties, meaning that the visitors moved into Swans 22, and with a catch/drive move Combe Down scored a try in the corner after 65 minutes(19pts- 5pts). Swans were looking for the bonus point try, but were making mistakes, and time was running out but in the last minute them ball fell to winger Sam Bowen who from 50 or so metres ran down the right wing, and ran round to score under the posts. Jamie kicked the extras giving Swans the bonus point winning by 26pts – 5pts.
